Gaza is a small strip of Palestinian land on the Mediterranean coast bordering Israel and Egypt. It is home to almost two million Palestinians.
The small Christian community has around 1,200 people, but provides services for the wider population including a hospital, a school and an orphanage. Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, but has kept the region under blockade since Hamas came to power in 2007. In the past decade Gaza has suffered three wars, costing thousands of lives.
