Hebron is the only Palestinian city in the West Bank with an Israeli settlement at its centre. The city has experienced serious violence costing the lives of many Israeli and Palestinian civilians.
Since 2000 the Israeli military has prevented Palestinian residents from moving freely around Hebron, including prohibiting them from walking or driving on many of the main streets.
